TMOS is a kinetic sculpture based on traditional mechanical craftsmanship that originated from Ste Croix, Switzerland. Inspired by Camus’s literary work “The Myth of Sisyphus”, this piece is made to bridge the beauty between mechanical art and the absurdity of life.
By moving the stone or winding a clockwork to give power to the device, the story begins to unfold until the power of gear is exhausted. “Repetitiveness” is the nature of machinery, and it is where Camus starts to explore the absurdity. Through the interaction with objects, we experience the absurdity addressed by Camus, in the mean time watching the beauty of the mechanical operation process, that is, the absurdity and beauty of life.
